Andrius Kovelinas

Contact: andrejusk@yahoo.fr

  • Andrius Kovelinas has been living in Ireland for almost 5 years now. His extraordinary style and imagination has been on show at The Green Gallery shortly after he set foot on these shores. For many years Andrius had travelled throughout Europe producing his masterly works everywhere he went “I travelled a lot in Europe through Countries such as Sweden, France, Hungary, Lithuania, Spain. Before I moved to Ireland I was living In Northern France in the City of St. Michel”. Among traces of Kovelinas still visible there is a large fresco for the supermarket chain L’eclerc. Then he will be preparing hard for an exhibition in Austria, in the beautiful city Gmunden.

In summer time every years, traditionally, he participates in the international Art Camp in France. 2007 year was excellent for Andrius. After two weeks 5 days travelling thru the French Normandy where he was inspired with new ideas for his pictures. The final exhibition was in Sorbay .

Generally, Andrius’s themes are women. When it comes to painting women he takes great joy from this subject and will continue to pursue painting extraordinary works of beautiful women as long as he will be able to paint. “Women are designed amazingly by our Creator. All works are oil on canvas, but style and technique are not so important. So the tools are classic As usual small brushes. First – the idea is sketched on paper, then the real painting is produced. The only problem is time. I cannot create fast. Each work required preparation (the idea) and then realisation. I never paint directly on canvas without sketches. It can take between 2 days to 3month. As a result a beautiful picture is produced”. It is good to know that there are people out there who love Andrius work. “The important thing is that the people love the art, when a person buys my work and hangs it up on their wall, with positive energy and love. They not only have a beautiful picture, but a good mood and a small part of me, the artist”.

An outsider’s art

Dave Boland talks to Andrius Kovelinas ahead of his forthcoming exhibition ahead of his exhibition aptly entitled “SHE” at the Green Gallery, Dundrum.

The influx of Eastern Europeans is generally regarded as a good thing, but, when asked, most people will probably be thinking in terms of employment. However, one Eastern European has set about bringing his own vision to the Irish art world. Andrius Kovelinas has been living in Ireland for almost four years, although he has spent a significant part of his life away from his native Lithuania.

I travelled a lot in Europe through countries such as Sweden, France, Hungary, Lithuania, Spain,” he said. “My sister lives in New York, and I go there two or three times a year to organise small private exhibitions for collectors.”

His travels have informed his art, and brought a certain international flavour to his works. Before moving to Ireland, Kovelinas was living in northern France in the city of St Michel, where his work is widely known and admired. He began his artistic career by participating in several exhibitions of posters in Sweden, Russia, Lithuania, and Poland. In particular he produced a lot of posters for the Opera, Ballet and Theatre companies of Kishinev, Moldova, and he won the Grand Prix in a Politic Poster Exhibition in Moscow in 1983.

In the period between 1987 and 1988, Kovelinas moved from posters back to oil paintings, but traces of the poster-art style can still be found in his work. Today, it is difficult to pin him down a single style – think renaissance classical meets Salvador Dali’s critical paranoia, and you could be coming close. But to fully experience his range, it would definitely be worth checking out his exhibition at the Green Gallery in Dundrum (in the Balally entrance corridor) on Wednesday, September 5 at 6.30 pm.

The exhibition is entitled “SHE”, which is hardly surprising considering that, in general, Kovelinas’ themes revolve around women. Indeed, he takes great joy from this subject and will continue to pursue painting extraordinary works of beautiful women as long as he will be able to paint.

“Women are designed amazingly by our creator,” he explained of his fascination with his subject.

In terms of technique, Kovelinas employs a painstaking approach which lends his pictures the element of a crystallised dream.

“All my works are oil on canvas, but style and technique are not so important. So the tools are classic - usually small brushes. First, my idea is sketched on paper, then the real painting is produced. The only problem is time. I cannot create fast. Each work requires preparation (the idea) and then realisation - and I never paint directly on canvas without sketches. It can take between two days and three months, but as a result, a beautiful picture is produced”.

Since 2003, when he first came to this country, Kovelinas has been exhibiting in the Green Gallery, and his works (in Ireland) have remained exclusive to this gallery – including a first Irish solo exhibition in the Green Gallery which took place in February 2006.

The quality of his work, coupled with its otherworldliness, has found favour with the art buying population of Dublin and beyond, and Kovelinas is becoming firmly established as a fixture in many of the collections of discerning Irish art lovers.

“The important thing is that the people love the art, when a person buys my work and hangs it up on their wall, with positive energy and love,” he said. “They not only have a beautiful picture, but a good mood and a small part of me, the artist”.

ANTONIO SÁNCHEZ–BAUTE

sanchezbauteantonio@hotmail.com
"Art is, like all artistic expression,

something that constantly advances."

The female contour is ANTONIO SÁNCHEZ–BAUTE’s highest source of inspiration. Although his works expose the feminine figure in slightly unconventional angles, this Venezuelan master unmistakably diffuses sensuality, harmony, and beauty in his paintings. "My model is my wife. Although I paint her disproportionately, I see her with exaggerated beauty," affirms the artist.

This talented painter did not arrive in the art world merely by chance. SÁNCHEZ’ grandparents influenced his artistic character with their Italian ancestry, which was an ideal compliment to the support he received from his father, a distinguished drawer and geographer, who was to become his first tutor during his early artistic years.

This seasoned artist sold his first painting at the age of thirteen during a small exhibition organized by his family. After this occurrence, SÁNCHEZ realized that his talent would take him in the direction he wanted to go. Therefore, this was how the artist began his search for an authentic style and a unique technique.

During the next four decades, the artist participated in exhibitions in Venezuela’s most exclusive galleries. This experience gave SÁNCHEZ the maturity and tenacity to develop his works with pastel on linen, an unusual technique that no one else had attempted to expand.

"In the beginning my thoughts regarding what I wanted to do were very scattered; however, with time and observation of the works of other artists, it occurred to me that I had to search for my own style and technique, which I believe I have found."

With this technique, SÁNCHEZ develops such a form that his works monopolize attention, they possess a magic that lingers in the minds of the public. Only the artists with ingenuity perfect the development of this mixture.

This eclectic artist’s subjects are simplistic in personality; it is a description of the movements of daily life, of the events that cubistically shape our lives.

The major ambition of ANTONIO SÁNCHEZ–BAUTE is to become appreciated through the experience, promotion, and evaluation of his works by his peers.

To my work.

Because of my love for nature I found the theme

of my photographic work very early. All the

beauty in this world, especially animals,

birds, insects and landscapes.

It is not only the exact reproduction I want to

keep hold of, but more the impressions, the feelings, the characteristically situations of life

I want to reflect.

Sometimes it takes hours of only watching,

feeling, taking in impressions, waiting and

tracking down the short moment of exposure.

To seize the animals, the landscapes as a

composition of colors and shapes from

different perspectives is my main intention.

I try to reflect my personal feelings of reality, the

silence, the peace and the life of nature in my

pictures.

I want to show to myself and to all observers, how

beautiful, various, aesthetic, exciting and unique

our environment is and how important it is to

preserve it.
